This course is suitable for anyone with minimal training skills who wish to train staff working in an environment where behavior may become challenging. The breakaway element of this course contains just a few effective techniques that are simple to use, and as safe as possible for both the trainer to teach and delegates to implement.

The de-escalation training course is designed to give delegates the tools to be able to deliver effective de-escalation and breakaway training in a safe and professional manner. Our training is ethical, safe, up to date and respectful to the client/service user. The methods we teach give staff the confidence to be able to deal with clients in a professional way; whilst having the tools to be able to deal with assaults should they happen.
Identify some of the potential risks staff may face whist working with clients by carrying out a PET assessment.
Recognise some of the early warning signs of impending aggressive or violent behaviour and choose appropriate strategies relating to the level of aggression.
Explore the use of assertive techniques in being able to:
o Make requests of clients
o Say no to clients
o Deal effectively with verbal abuse.
Identify both verbal and non-verbal skills for dealing with the anger of others – how to de-escalate a heated situation.
Explore the different training methods of how to put this across to your audience.
Recognise the effect that our own emotions and values can have on our ability to remain calm and professional in a heated situation and learn how to manage this.
Discuss the use of reasonable force should someone have to defend themselves against a physical assault.
Identify the role of the trainer in ensuring safety on the course.
Practice some safe and ethical breakaway techniques in order to escape from a physical assault.
Deliver a short mini session.
